The Man Institute - Your source for everything manly.

Welcome to the Man Institute.

Here at the Man Institute, we are dedicated to helping guys remember what it was like when men were actually tough and showed it through amazing displays of manliness. When men weren't scared to get dirty and wouldn't be caught dead with a fruity cocktail drink. If you're appauled by the decline of manliness in men today, then welcome home.

Man Institute Remembers Tsutomu Yamaguchi: The Bomb Proof Man (1916-2010)

In one of my earliest articles I chose Tsutomu Yamaguchi as a more than deserving topic. Clearly any man who survives having two atomic bombs dropped on him in three days has earned the highest honours that the Man Institute can bestow. On January 4th 2010, the world lost one of it’s manliest men. The current life expectancy at birth in Japan is slightly over 88 years and the average number atomic blasts survived is zero. Yamaguchi died at the age of 93 despite decades of illness caused by radiation …

5 Essential Free iPod/iPhone Apps for the Manly Man

Aside from Amp Energy’s hilarious Before You Score, the Man Institute in the past hasn’t really covered much to do with the iPod or iPhone. This was essentially due to the fact that none of us had one nor could we afford to splurge and get one. Well thanks to an awesome Christmas gift, we can now use the thousands of apps out there and test them out so you don’t have to. With that out of the way, here are 5 badass apps for men.

The Unemployed Man’s Workout Guide: Five Ways to Keep in Shape During Recession

There’s no getting around it: The economy sucks. Unemployment is through the roof and every aspect of daily life is affected by it. One of the first casualties of pursestring-tightening is the gym membership. What was once taken for granted is now an unaffordable luxury. And it doesn’t help that bacon is the last casualty. That doesn’t mean that there aren’t ways to keep in shape on the cheap. Here are five ideas that’ll make sure that even though you may be down on tough times, no one will kick …

“The Machine” to Clean Up Crime in 2012

By 2012, dumbass criminals will have an all new police tool to worry about that will maybe make them think twice about attempting an escape. Let me introduce you to Carbon Motor’s E7 Police Cruiser, AKA: “The Machine”.
The idea behind the E7 was fairly simple. Current police cars are all modified versions of civilian cars. These civilian cars were simply not designed to withstand the abuse that a police cruiser sees in the line of duty. These vehicles also weren’t designed to be police cars. Sure Ford made their Crwon Victoria …

The Top Fifteen Manly Movies of the Decade

That’s it for another decade (Depending on your views, but it’s easier to say we started at year 0 so just go with it). Roughly for every 25 movies that come out, you get one real manly movie. A movie that leaves men absolutely pumped after watching and leaves the less manly people in the theatre horrified.
There have been a lot of badass movies to come out recently. The new Rambo was full of explosions and sweet bad-guy killings, however; it lacked a decent story line. How does John Rambo …

Childhood Just Isn’t Dangerous Enough Anymore

It seems that you never stop hearing about some new dangerous children’s toy being recalled and banned from the market. Every year the media goes off about how this toy lead to a broken arm or that toy is poisonous. Children used to play with BB guns, lawn darts, bows and arrows and all other kinds of potentially fatal objects for amusement. When the world is completely devoid of dangerous things for children to play with, we will truly see how important they were.
The human population is now approaching seven …

Sure-Fire Business Cards

So you go out to have a good time at a bar, club, party, etc. and you can’t seem to break the ice with the ladies. Or maybe you can break the ice but you have nothing worthwhile to talk about once you do. It’s no surprise that your job working for a major fertilizer company as Lead Turd-Scoop isn’t exactly drawing women in. What you need is a new job. Or even better, a business card that says you work somewhere interesting!
Business cards are more than just a piece …

How to Shave Like a Real Man

Since no men’s website is complete without an article on shaving, I decided that it’s high time the Man Institute gave you a lesson on razors and shaving.
There are several different ways of shaving from the classic straight razor to the new fancy Gillette Fusion. There are also different opinions on when to shave and how to do it. I like to shave in the morning before I shower. Brett from artofmaliness.com feels a shave after your morning shower is best (as stated in his shaving article linked further down). Adam from blokebuddy.com feels a …
