President Obama Follows Through on his Beer Bet with Harper in True Manly Fashion

During the Olympics, Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper and US President Barack Obama entered into a friendly wager over who would win the gold medal men’s hockey game. Should the US win, Obama would win himself a case of Yuengling, the President’s beer of choice. If Canada won, however; Harper would win a case of Molson Canadian.
I’m assuming that since you’re reading articles at the Man Institute, that you also watched the game. A game that was huge for us here in Vancouver, but also just a spectacular game overall. A …

Man Institute Remembers Tsutomu Yamaguchi: The Bomb Proof Man (1916-2010)

In one of my earliest articles I chose Tsutomu Yamaguchi as a more than deserving topic. Clearly any man who survives having two atomic bombs dropped on him in three days has earned the highest honours that the Man Institute can bestow. On January 4th 2010, the world lost one of it’s manliest men. The current life expectancy at birth in Japan is slightly over 88 years and the average number atomic blasts survived is zero. Yamaguchi died at the age of 93 despite decades of illness caused by radiation …

Mine Sweeping – Aki Ra Style

To this day many countries still have the explosive remnants of war (ERW) scattered about. Land mines and unexploded ordinance (UXO) from the first and second world wars as well as the Vietnam war pose a constant threat to people who live in those areas. Many people have different ways to deal with the problem. Some people start charities that don’t specify exactly where the money goes. Others give money to charities, not knowing exactly where the money goes. Some go the simple route and step on the mines then blow up. A guy …

Recovering the Cougar Ace- Cowboys of the Deep (MUST READ!)

The following video is a very very brief overview of the article I’m about to post. It’s more of a segue introducing you to the ridiculous manliness that is Titan Salvage ship recovery.

I will save you the time in reading my article right now, and direct you straight to the article published in Wired Magazine. It’s a long read, but if you truly are a man, you won’t stop until you’ve finished reading it. HERE IT IS. I highly suggest you read it, as mine will be nothing but a …

Alexander the Greatest

Allow me to explain the history of possibly Greece’s greatest King of all time. Sired in Pella, the ancient capital of Macedonia, was a small boy born the son of King Phillip II and next in the royal line. This child’s name was Alexander and he would grow up to be the world renowned “Alexander the Great”. His father claimed direct descent from the great Greek hero Hercules and his mother Achilles.
Alexander’s early life was full of teaching and knowledge by many respected minds. A few years into his childhood, …

Capt. Ben Salomon- More Than a Dentist

Born: 1 September 1914, Milwaukee Wisconsin
Died (KIA): 7 July 1944, Saipan
Ben Salomon was part of an often overlooked branch of all armed forces. The medical teams. More often than not when people conjure up images of wartime gallantry and American (or Canadian) heroes, it is an image of a camo clad infantry soldier rising  above odds and hardship to accomplish something that most people would find unbelievable. The image is appropriate as this is usually the case. It is complicated to imagine behind the scenes, generally “unnoticed” military personnel doing …

Name me Manly Mcmanliness

I found an article that Cracked.com posted a long ass time ago, and I have had it saved in my bookmarks since. I never really thought I would ever find a use for it until the Man Institute was born. The article is basically a list of the 9 manliest names ever found and whether or not the people live up to their names, and I’m sure some of you have viewed it. Obviously there are going to be arguments made for and against each name, but it is impossible …
