5 Essential Free iPod/iPhone Apps for the Manly Man
Aside from Amp Energy’s hilarious Before You Score, the Man Institute in the past hasn’t really covered much to do with the iPod or iPhone. This was essentially due to the fact that none of us had one nor could we afford to splurge and get one. Well thanks to an awesome Christmas gift, we can now use the thousands of apps out there and test them out so you don’t have to. With that out of the way, here are 5 badass apps for men.
The fist bump is the multitool of male emotions. A simple closed fist making contact with another closed fist can show gratitutde, greet a friend, express a thank you or an apology, show your appreciation for a joke and much more.
Now, thanks to Bump Technologies, the fist bump is capable of sharing information with other people. Just by holding your iPod or Iphone in hand and delivering a fist bump, your contact information is sent to the recipient and vice versa. You can share all your information or just what you select to share. The only real downfall of using Bump this way is that you won’t be able to pull out the exploding fist bump. Maybe Bump Technologies will develop a handstrap to hold your iPhone during an exploding fist bump.
Running late for work? Don’t get busted driving ridiculous speeds just to save yourself a few minutes. With Trapster, you can see where red light cameras are as well as reported police speed traps and locations where they often hide. Trapster is essentially an automatic warning. You end up slowing down (Which is what the cops want anyways) and save yourself a couple hundred bucks. A pretty valuable app and works great.
You’re at the Man Institute so obviously you are manly, strive to be manly, appreciate manliness or want to understand men. At any rate, it should be noted that a manly man knows damn near everything. We achieve this by never asking for help as it shows weakness (ex. Asking directions).
Howcast.com has made an awesome app that seems as though it was designed with men in mind. You can learn anything from “How to do the Moonwalk” to “How to Convince Someone to Skinnydip” to “How to be better at a First Person Shooter” (You know, if you enjoy playing Modern Warfare 2 while naked in a pool dancing like MJ).
Everyone knows that men need to be kept up to date with sports scores and stats. It’s common knowledge. Well now, thanks to ESPN, it is even easier. With the Score Center app, you can check out scoreboards of almost all sports and be kept up to date with the latest scores. You can also choose your teams and get alerts of upcoming games and updates of their stats.
There are a few things lacking in this app. When you select your teams, you start by hitting the sport, then league, then team. I hit rugby and realised that New Zealand wasn’t even on the list. They also don’t cover CFL for you CFL fans nor do they cover any MMA events, including UFC.
There are a few minor problems, but all in all, it’s a great app.
All guys should know how to make drinks. With this app you will have thousands of drink recipes right at your fingertips. You can search by the name of the drink or by ingredients. At some point, there will be a girl asking you to make her a drink. Ask her what she likes. Take and ingredient from that and search it. Make her something new that she hasn’t tried. Instant hero.
I really liked this one. There are a few reviews of whiners complaining about ads but what do you expect from a free app? Pretty solid.
